Just Be Tender

Just to be tender, just to be true,
Just to be glad the whole day through,
Just to be merciful, just to be mild,
Just to be trustful with faith like a child,
Just to be gentle and kind and sweet,
Just to be helpful with willing feet,
Just to be cheery when things go wrong,
Just to drive sadness away with a song,
Whether the hour is dark, or bright,
Just to be loyal to God and right,
Just to believe that God knows best,
Just in His promises ever to rest--
Just to let love sound its sweetest key,
That is God's will for you and for me.

May you have a beautiful Sunday,
Donna

What is the origin of this poem?? My mother recited a close version of it to us frequently when we were growing up. Her mother, in turn, had written it in my mother's autograph book when Mom was a child. The legend is that the poem was found under my great-grandmother's pillow when she died.

Hi, The little poem, Just Be Tender, was from a very special little book of poetry from around 1900 that I have if I recall correctly. However, I have looked for it, and have been unable to find it to give you more information.

If I am able to do so, I will let you know. You sound like you have a very special family history.

Thank you for visiting my blog.

God bless,
Donna
